I had so much fucking bread this weekend and I don’t regret a single piece I ate. I had breads from apple & raisin, to French bread, to raisin scones. I can’t get enough of it. I even started today with an almond butter sandwich on some light rye bread. Yes, carbs carbs carbs, but it makes me enjoy life just a little bit more having a beautiful piece of bread with some ricotta cheese. Or keep it simple with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Stale baguette? No worries! Put a mushed overly ripened avocado on it with some cherry tomatoes and toast it in the oven.

I would have probably reached my weight loss goal months ago if I cut bread out, but what kind of life would that be? Seriously.

I’ve mentioned a couple of times that Val periodically will talk in her sleep. As most spew out inaudible gibberish, Val usually sounds clear and composed but what she says isn’t relevant what so ever. As someone who tosses in their sleep, I wake up a lot and sometimes my rolling around will ignite Val’s sleep talking. The first instance, I woke up in the early morning, say 4AM, and at that very moment, Val patted my leg and said “That’a girl!”. When asking for clarification, there was no response, she just went back to snoring. The second instance was the other night. Once again I woke up around 4AM and adjusted my body (I think my ass was asleep) and Val went “Oh! That must be the pizza”. These are golden and I hope one day to make money off of a book making fun of her sleep talking.

I’ve been persistent with my New Years’ resolution. Three weeks into 2012 I have been sleeping better, eating better and exercising. I find that the trick is getting things ready the night before. As I mentioned, having a coffee maker with a fucking timer is the best idea ever – honestly (aside from sex) what is the greatest sensation in the world? It’s clearly waking up to the smell of coffee filling your apartment! I’ve bought these massive mixed greens, cherry tomatoes and cucumber and that has been my lunch 85% of the time. I make this really awesome dressing too (balsamic, olive oil, dijon mustard and lime juice). I have been extremely motivated after I lost 30 pounds since 2010. The goal is to lose another 10 by March then another 10 by the end of the summer. Bringing me down to 175 pounds. Clothes are fitting me and are looking great on me – I haven’t felt like this for a long time.

Enough of the frigging bragging you bozo! There are a couple of events I am looking forward to. THIS GUY will be playing in a coed softball tournament at the Rogers Center (SkyDome) on January 28th weekend. So excited! Val and I in February will be taking a magic train ride to Montreal. I have never been there and I haven’t even been to another province. I am excited! I also plan to buy beer at a convenience store because we are deprived of such luxury here in Ontario. There will hopefully be a trip to Cuba again this year too.

Loving this song right now…she’s not even that great but I absolutely love the instruments in it.

Back To The Grind

Well well well,

Happy Monday to everyone. I had a wonderful weekend! Went and visited Steve and Gabby in Guelph where we proceeded to get a grand tour of the town and their new apartment. We had some awesome clam chowder and bison burgers. Can’t complain at all. Sunday we headed to Oshawa and saw Junie. Val did her best to teach her how to skate and she was MUCH better than last year. Sunday evening I took my Grandpa to the Oshawa Generals game. He hadn’t been to one since, get this, he PLAYED for them in 1950-1951. He played on the same line with two hall of famers. Sadly he had to quit because he shattered his ankle – very unfortunate as he was invited to the Boston Bruins try out camp. He doesn’t spend his days asking ‘what if?’ though. Back then you worked your butt off in the Summers and usually played different sports. Injuries, even career ending, were quite common.

I’ve been enjoying my new camera (Nikon S9100). I am, however, a bit let down by the speed of the shutter in low-light. The research I did on the camera raved about the low light quality. Sure, it takes high quality, non-grainy photos, but the shutter is incredibly slow. Anything take under 1/60 going to quite blurry without a tripod. Anywho, my favourite perks as of right now is its movie mode and the ability to shoot up to 240 frames per second. I find myself trying to find things to shoot in slow-mo. If anyone could suggest a few things, I will be more than happy to shoot something. Here’s a little sample at 120 frames per second:

I just read some of my old entries and I think I NEED blogging. I will be making a big effort to write shit – and I want to include pictures and video from my new camera (ahem, the Nikon D9100 – Ashton Kutcher eat your heart out).

I do ask selfishly that those who do read my blog, let me know that you do! Use the comment section and feel free to bash, compliment, or bathe me in lavender. I REALLY don’t mind. PLUS push me to post if I say I am not or if I don’t post in a long time. If I really didn’t care about blogging, I wouldn’t get so worked up about not posting, right? I’ve been on a fucking Twitter tear the last couple of months; going from barely ever “tweeting” to tweeting about a dozen times a day. There is still a poster/writer/blogger in me. I can feel it…or that could be a stroke I am not entirely sure. Writing and expressing creativity exercises the brain and I feel so crammed up in my head if I don’t let stuff out. Plus, it eases my anxiety quite a bit.

This weekend includes skating with June and the Oshawa Generals game with my Papa. Have a good one everyone!

Unrelated news, I’m addicted to rage faces and it appears it brings my coworkers joy.

I absolutely hate colds. But I am blown away by the medicine and technology to rid a cold in a few days. If it was 800AD, having a cold would be a serious issue. Today, I take a NyQuil and all is well. (This post brought to you by NyQuill).

Speaking of medication, what was I thinking going on Cymbalta!? The hospital has been providing me samples for the last three months. It was my turn to begin paying for the meds. I don’t have a drug plan and the next thing you know I’m paying $200 a month for freaking medication! So looks as though I may need to go on a shittier alternative; please note that I am also blown away by the fact that we have alternatives. It sucks though, these meds have been great and have been working really well for me. For those who take it or take an expensive medication, is there a way around this? Can a hospital/doctor provide subsidies? Perhaps I can ride it out until after the CBT in January but damn, do I feel good.

I keep seeing these posts from some of my conservative friends on Fuckbook/Facebook. It appears to be a forwarded status regarding the removal of the word “Christmas” from Christmas Tree – Holiday Tree. This upset them as they feel that atheists and immigrants are TAKIN’ THEIR TREEEEEZZ!! The status goes on to say that if they don’t conform to our Christian ideals, we will help them pack and git’ on outta the country. Very very Toby Keith of them. They aren’t just changing calling it a holiday tree JUST because of immigrants. Many Canadians aren’t religious. Plus the whole idea of Christmas is about consumerism anyways! None of us really celebrate “Christmas” like it was meant to be celebrated too. It’s a holiday and everyone should be involved and has the right to celebrate it in their own way no matter what their religion or belief is. If you want to call it Christmas, call it Christmas. It’s just sad that in our very multicultural and diverse country, we still find ways to angrily exclude others in a holiday that’s supposed to celebrate happiness, coming together and peace.

We could let holidays bring us together or we can keep trying to divide ourselves. Take Spock, Kirk, and the Nutcracker below, both with conflicting beliefs on religion, yet they came together on Saturday for a wonderful Christmas/Holiday party.
